What's in a Name?

I noticed on Yahoo this morning their listing of the top baby names for 2010 as taken from BabyCenter.  The top girl’s name of the year was Sophia and the top boy’s name of the year was Aiden.  Since 2010 is the year my ‘grandtwins’ were born, I decided to read more.  Here is what I learned:
The top ten boy names for 2010:
1.       Aiden

5.       Jayden
6.       Noah
7.       Logan
8.       Caden
9.       Lucas
10.   Liam
The top ten girl names for 2010:
1.       Sophia

I’m glad to see our shih tzu’s name is in first place.  Of course, we do call her Sophie which is ranked as #51.
The names Cannon and Adelaide are not in the top 100. They are not even in the top 500.   Adelaide is #592 and Cannon is #601.  Molly has said time and again that she will never be able to find pre-made items with the twins’ names on them.   She’s talking about Christmas ornaments, pencils, notepads --- all those things kids love to find in their stockings at Christmas time.  But the upside of that is – according to their Aunt Sigrid – that they will always be the only one with their name in their classroom.   In Sigrid’s instance, she is the only one with her name in the entire school.

Nick names – Cannon was blessed with ‘CANNONBALL’ by Auntie Gogo before he was born.  Since that time, sweet Miss Adelaide gets called ‘Little Adelaidey Who’.  Yodel that as it works better.

Continuing my reading I learned that my grandson’s name means ‘Young Wolf’.   Hmmm….wonder if he will live up to that?  And, do we want him to?   Adelaide’s name means ‘noble and kind’.  She’s already showing signs of these traits.

There are thousands and thousands of names for parents to select.  It’s the first gift parents bestow upon their child.  It has great value but costs absolutely nothing.
